The Best Upland Bird Shoot is Waiting for You in Southwest Missouri

Mountain Creek Ranch opens its upland bird season on November 1, 2026, and it runs through March 31, 2027. The ranch sits on 1,200 acres in the Ozark hills near Aurora, Missouri, and offers three hunt packages. The half-day and full-day hunts are guided field hunts with trained gundogs, with a quail-only option in each. The European hunt is a group shoot which rotates through 12 stations. The three hunts include the best quail hunting in Missouri, and range from a single morning in the field to a full day with friends.

Choosing the right quail hunting package comes down to how much time your group has and how many birds you want. It also depends on whether you would rather walk the fields behind our trained gundogs or enjoy our European-style tower shoot with hunting friends.

Visit our hunting packages page or call Mountain Creek Ranch at (417) 689-0026 for more information.

Included With Every Quail Hunting Package

Some parts of the day are the same no matter which hunt you book. Every quail hunting package at the ranch includes a warm-up shoot at the competition 5-stand trap shooting center, which gives you a chance to get comfortable with your shotgun before the hunt begins. Every package also includes meals, with the menu set by the hunt you choose.

After the hunt, the ranch handles full processing of your birds, including cleaning and packaging, so you take home game that is ready for the grill or freezer. Guests staying at the ranch can also ask to have their birds prepared as a special meal for the group. Every hunt comes with a guide, and on the half-day and full-day hunts, the dogs are trained by Ken Chenoweth, the ranch’s outfitter and guide.

Groups that want to stay overnight can also book one of the ranch’s bird hunting lodges, which hold parties of up to 12 people.

Reach out to Mountain Creek Ranch with your group size and preferred dates, and the team can check availability for the hunt you choose.

The Half-Day Hunt for a Shorter Outing

At $425 per gun plus tax, the half-day hunt is the shortest option at the ranch, which makes it a good introduction for hunters new to upland birds. It also works for groups that want to hunt and keep the rest of the day open.

You can book a morning or an afternoon hunt. The morning hunt includes breakfast and lunch. The afternoon hunt includes lunch, and the day closes with heavy hors d’oeuvres and a beverage bucket.

Bird options for the half-day hunt are:

  • 25 quail
  • 15 chukar
  • 10 pheasant
  • A mix of 5 pheasant, 5 chukar, and 5 quail

Hunters who want to focus on quail hunting can take all 25 birds as quail. The mixed option lets you try three species in one outing, which is useful if your group has not yet decided which bird it likes to hunt most. Half-day quail hunts are also easy to fit into a weekend with other plans.

If a morning or afternoon in the field fits your schedule, reserve a half-day hunt for the upcoming season.

The Full-Day Hunt for More Field Time

The full-day hunt runs $725 per gun plus tax and is built for hunters who want more time in the field and a higher bird count than the half-day hunt allows.

The full-day package doubles the half-day bird counts:

  • 50 quail
  • 30 chukar
  • 20 pheasant
  • A mix of 10 pheasant, 10 chukar, and 10 quail

Meals are covered the entire day with this hunt. You start with breakfast, break for lunch, and finish the day with heavy hors d’oeuvres and the beverage bucket. The full-day hunt suits experienced hunters and is perfect for annual hunts with friends. Full-day quail hunts also give newer hunters more chances to enjoy field time with our world-class gundogs.

For the most time in the field, call (417) 689-0026 to book a full-day hunt.

The European Hunt for Groups That Want a Social Shoot

The European hunt costs $475 per gun plus tax and works differently from the field hunts. Hunters rotate through 12 shooting stations at a quick pace while birds are released from a European-style central release tower.

This hunt requires 6 guns but allows up to 24, which makes it a strong choice for company outings and sporting clubs. Each shooter gets 15 birds, and additional birds are available for purchase.

The package includes breakfast, halftime snacks, lunch, and a bonfire. For groups that value time together as much as the shooting, the European hunt keeps everyone at the same shoot with plenty of time for conversation, from breakfast to the bonfire.

If you are organizing 6 or more shooters, contact the Mountain Creek Ranch team to hold your preferred date. Reservations fill fast during upland bird season.
